Cutting Horse Show

Watch one of the world's fastest-growing equine sports at American Royal.

Cutting is one of the world's fastest-growing equestrian sports, and this show brings that excitement right to Kansas City. The competition features horse-and-rider teams working together to separate individual cattle from a herd—it's a fascinating display that looks almost like a dance between horse and cow. The National Cutting Horse Association oversees judging through a fair point system that rewards skill and penalizes mistakes. This event includes multiple competitions across the weekend, with the Open and Non-Pro Showcase running Saturday evening and the Saddle Shootout on Sunday (where the top rider wins a branded saddle). Saturday is Purple Night, so spectators are invited to wear purple in remembrance of Hilary Watson. If you're bringing a horse, practice opportunities are available Thursday, with stalls, tack stalls, shavings, practice pens, and flags all available for reasonable fees.
