Free Weekend Fun: Mini to Monumental

Kids can dive into a hands-on art project where they'll design and build paper shuttlecock sculptures while learning about scale—how changing an object's size transforms the way we see and experience it. Using paper and colorful materials, participants will experiment with creating pieces in different dimensions to explore this artistic concept firsthand. This free activity happens at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art during several weekend sessions throughout September. The museum itself offers free admission to its entire collection spanning over 5,000 years of art, so families can easily combine the craft activity with gallery exploring. No registration is required—just show up during the scheduled times between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on your preferred date.
