Free Weekend Fun: Nouveau Notes
Create a time-telling tool & explore how civilizations track time at Nelson-Atkins.
Bring your kids to the Nelson-Atkins Museum for a creative afternoon exploring art and design. In the Bloch Building lobby, children can design their own postcard inspired by the work of Alphonse Mucha. Then head into Gallery 128, where Museum Guide volunteers help families discover how artists use color, shapes, and lines to create beautiful artwork. The whole experience is completely free and drop-in—no registration or tickets needed.
This weekend activity runs from 1 to 4 p.m., so you can arrive whenever works best for your family and spend as much or as little time as you'd like. It's a relaxed way to experience the museum's collections while letting kids engage directly with art. As Kansas City's beloved free cultural institution, the Nelson-Atkins welcomes families year-round, making this a perfect option for a low-cost weekend outing.
