GloWild: Hidden Treasure

Treasure-hunt adventure through glowing animal exhibits at the Kansas City Zoo.

GloWild: Hidden Treasure is a nighttime adventure that transforms the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium into a glowing expedition filled with discovery. Families follow a mile-long illuminated path decorated with elaborate lighted sculptures inspired by ancient shipwrecks, buried treasure sites, jungle landscapes, and expedition camps. The handcrafted displays—made from over 34 tons of steel and 89,000 feet of fabric by 151 artisans—feature clues, artifacts, and interactive elements that create the feeling of an actual treasure hunt. Most visitors complete the route in about an hour, with plenty of photo opportunities along the way. The event runs Wednesday through Sunday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m., and the path opens as soon as the gates do at 6 p.m. Guests can enjoy food and beverage options throughout the experience. On Wednesday nights, visitors also get access to Sobela Ocean Aquarium. Kids can ride the Endangered Species Carousel free from 6 to 9 p.m. (weather permitting). Be sure to check the zoo's operating calendar, as the event is closed Mondays and Tuesdays except during Thanksgiving week. This is a great outing for families who enjoy exploring, interactive activities, and festive evening entertainment.
