History Hike: Deep Lock Quarry
Guided nature hike exploring Deep Lock Quarry Trail with local history.
Join a guided walk through 19th-century quarry history along the scenic 1.4-mile Quarry Trail. You'll explore the stories and remnants of over a hundred years of stone extraction in the area, discovering where the stone originated, how workers quarried it from the ground, and how it traveled to its final destinations. A naturalist will share images and narratives that bring this industrial heritage to life.
This program welcomes adults and seniors looking for a morning of local history combined with outdoor activity. The hike is in-person at the quarry trail location. If you have questions before heading out, the Nature Realm Visitors Center can help—they're available Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., at 330-865-8065.
