Kansas City Jazz Academy Instrumental Combo Camp 2026

Jazz instrumental camp for young musicians at Gem Theater.

Are you a middle or high school student who plays jazz? The American Jazz Museum is hosting a five-day instrumental combo camp this summer where you'll work with accomplished jazz artists and educators. The program goes beyond typical school music classes, focusing on style, history, music theory, ear training, and ensemble musicianship. You'll participate in daily sessions led by experienced instructors, plus special clinics and masterclasses from visiting jazz musicians and educators from across the country and world. The camp kicks off with auditions on Sunday, July 12, followed by the main program running Monday through Friday, July 13–17. Each day runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the week concludes with a public summer showcase performance on Friday afternoon. Scholarships are available for eligible families on a first-come, first-served basis—fill out the scholarship application on the event page to apply. For questions or more details after registering, you'll hear from the Kansas City Jazz Academy manager. Refunds are available if you need to cancel up to a week before the camp begins.
