Low Sensory Morning
Quieter, sensory-friendly museum experience at Nelson-Atkins—perfect for kids sensitive to crowds.
Low Sensory Mornings are specially designed museum experiences that create a calm, welcoming environment for children and families who are sensitive to crowds, noise, and bright lights. During these quieter hours, sensory stimulation is reduced—lower volume, dimmed lighting where possible, and fewer visitors—making it easier for kids with autism, anxiety, sensory processing differences, or those who simply thrive in peaceful settings to explore and enjoy art at their own pace. Staff are trained to support families with additional needs, and the slower pace lets kids linger and connect with exhibits without feeling rushed.
