Paper Marbling and Quill Writing
Learn historic paper-marbling and quill-writing at Fort Osage.
Step back in time and discover two historic artistic techniques at Fort Osage. During this two-hour workshop, your family will learn about paper marbling—a decorative craft that dates back to 12th-century Asia and eventually found its way to America. You'll create your own marbled paper design and transform it into a notebook to take home as a keepsake.
In the second half of the session, an instructor will guide you through the art of quill writing. You'll learn how to prepare ink, practice proper quill technique, and discover how to trim the quill's tip to maintain its writing quality. This hands-on experience brings early American craftsmanship to life. The cost is $25 per person. Note that Pogo Pass memberships are not accepted for this event. To sign up, contact the visitor center or the Fort Osage office using the information provided.
