September 11 Commemoration

The Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum will host a September 11 Commemoration marking the 25th anniversary of the attacks. The day begins with a morning observance at 8:30 a.m.—a brief ceremony honoring those lost and the first responders who answered the call. You'll witness a ceremonial howitzer salute from Battery D, the World War I artillery unit once led by Captain Harry Truman, while local firefighters and emergency personnel participate in the tribute. That evening at 6:00 p.m., the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra brings a different kind of reflection to the Truman Library Auditorium. This seven-member ensemble performs classic jazz standards and contemporary arrangements, offering an intimate evening of music. Both events are free to attend, making this a meaningful way for families to remember this important day together.
