Stargaze the Blue

Spend a free evening under the stars at Alex George Wetland with help from local astronomy enthusiasts. The Astronomical Society of Kansas City will set up telescopes for you to explore, starting with a chance to watch them assemble their equipment and learn about how they track celestial objects. After a short presentation on light pollution and its effects on the night sky and wildlife, you'll get hands-on time looking through the telescopes while volunteers point out planets, stars, and constellations and answer your questions. This is a great outing for families of any age who want to experience stargazing together. Come prepared with water, bug spray, long pants, and closed-toe shoes to stay comfortable outdoors. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on during the presentation portion. There's no running water available on site, so plan accordingly for your group's needs.
