Summer in the City

Summer in the City brings a full day of free creative activities to downtown Kansas City. The event runs from noon to 7 p.m. and features live musical performances bookending the afternoon—an alternative/genre-queer singer-songwriter takes the stage at midday, while an emerging Turkish music collective performs in the evening. Between performances, families can participate in a fan decorating workshop where all supplies are provided, giving kids and adults a chance to get creative together. Food truck options are available throughout the day to keep everyone fueled. Beyond the performances and workshops, an art market showcases work from local Kansas City artists and makers, including handmade ceramics, sustainable paper goods, Native American ledger art, jewelry, and more. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore independent creative work while supporting artists in your community. The entire event is free and designed to celebrate the vibrant artistic culture that makes downtown special, so families can spend as much or as little time as they'd like enjoying the various activities and vendors.
