The Good, the Bad, and the Funny

The Good, the Bad, and the Funny

Comedy and performance workshop at Englewood Arts Center in Independence.

Directed by Martin City Melodrama, this one-week day camp invites young performers to explore comedy through the ages—from silent film legends like Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton to today's funny folks. Campers will dive into improvisation, physical comedy, slapstick, joke-telling, and even the classic art of pie-throwing. Music and rhythm play a key role in learning how to deliver laughs. The experience emphasizes teamwork and builds confidence through hands-on theater training. The week culminates in three live performances featuring an original cowboy melodrama and vaudeville show created by the campers themselves. Family and friends are invited to watch the students perform and see what they've learned. Camp runs all day from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, and lunch can be added for an extra fee. The $245 base cost includes everything needed to participate, with scholarships available for families who need them. To enroll, submit an Interest Form first—spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Children with disabilities are welcome and encouraged to join.
