The Kansas City Symphony Presents: The Rite of Spring

Kansas City Symphony opens its season with Stravinsky's iconic ballet The Rite of Spring.

The Kansas City Symphony opens its 2026/27 season with a spectacular three-day run featuring one of the most groundbreaking classical works ever written. Igor Stravinsky's *The Rite of Spring* made headlines when it premiered over a century ago, and it remains a masterpiece celebrated for its bold rhythms, inventive orchestration, and daring harmonies. Under the direction of Music Director Matthias Pintscher, you'll experience the complete ballet music that revolutionized classical composition. The program also includes a beloved local favorite: violinist Augustin Hadelich performing Mendelssohn's *Violin Concerto*, a piece renowned for its lyrical beauty. The evening opens with Smetana's *The Moldau*, a stirring orchestral selection. Performances run multiple evenings, with tickets starting at $35. This is an excellent opportunity to introduce older children and teens to world-class orchestral music in an intimate concert setting at the Kauffman Center.
